Privacy Policy

Who this policy is from

GIF Giver is made by Will Sigmon (Will Sigmon Media). It covers the GIF Giver macOS menu bar app and the GIF Giver app for iOS, including its Apple Messages extension. When this policy says "we," it means the developer; when it says "the app," it means the GIF Giver software on your device.

What we do not collect

• We do not require or offer an account, sign-in, or password. There is no "Sign in with Apple," and there are no user profiles.
• We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or contacts.
• We do not track you or your activity across other apps or websites.
• We do not use third-party advertising, and we do not embed analytics or tracking SDKs.
• We do not sell, rent, or share personal data, because we do not collect it.

Search requests (the one thing the app sends)

To show you GIFs, the app sends search requests to the GIF Giver API proxy, a service running on Cloudflare Workers. Each request contains only:

• your search query text (or a request for trending / a category);
• the content-rating filter in effect;
• the page number, result limit, and content type.

These are transient request parameters used to return matching results in real time. They are not stored by the developer, not linked to your identity, and not used to build a profile of you. The proxy forwards the request to our GIF providers (GIPHY and Klipy) and returns the merged results to your device.

The app calls https://gifgiver-api.wjsigmon.workers.dev (also reachable at the custom domain https://gifgiver-api.willsigmon.media) over standard HTTPS. Provider API keys live only as encrypted server-side secrets in that proxy; they are never shipped inside the app.

Your device-local library

In GIF Giver 1.0.1, new favorites, recents, collections, and content settings stay on the device where you make them. On iPhone and iPad, the companion app and Messages extension share the same-device library through Apple's App Group so changes made in either surface are available to the other on that device.

GIF Giver 1.0.1 neither reads nor writes iCloud library or settings data. Any KVS data left by an older release remains untouched under your Apple Account. Durable cross-device synchronization through the user's private CloudKit database is future work and is not active in 1.0.1.

GIF files themselves are downloaded locally from the provider when needed. The developer does not receive, see, or have access to your device library.

Your optional API key

GIF Giver works out of the box with no setup. If you prefer, you can supply your own provider (GIPHY or Klipy) API key in the app's advanced settings. When you do, that key is stored only in your local macOS Keychain on your own Mac. It is never transmitted to the developer and never leaves your device except in the direct provider requests you choose to make.

macOS Choose GIF to Copy service

On macOS, the "Choose GIF to Copy" action (via the system Services menu) opens the picker and copies the selected GIF to your clipboard. Press Cmd + V to paste it into the active app.

GIF Giver does not request Accessibility permission, monitor input, or control another app.

Third-party GIF providers

GIF content and search results come from two third-party services:

• GIPHY — GIPHY Privacy Policy
• Klipy — Klipy Privacy Policy

When the proxy forwards your search to these providers to fetch results, their handling of that request is governed by their own privacy policies, not this one. The app displays the required "Powered by GIPHY & Klipy" attribution. GIFs are third-party content, licensed and accessed through the providers' official APIs.

The API proxy is hosted on Cloudflare (Cloudflare Privacy Policy), which relays search requests and returns results.

Children and age rating

GIF Giver is rated 17+ and is not directed at children. Because the Mac app performs open web GIF search and can be set to allow mature results, it is not intended for anyone under 17.

On iPhone and iPad, search is family-safe with no mature-content option. On Mac, content is capped at PG-13 unless you opt in through Settings. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since the app collects no personal data from anyone, there is nothing to knowingly collect from a child.

Data retention

The developer holds none of your personal library data, so there is no GIF Giver library for us to retain or delete on our servers. Search parameters are used to fulfill a request and are not stored by us. Library and settings changes remain in device storage. Any KVS data left by an older release remains under your Apple Account and is not accessed by version 1.0.1.

Security & encryption

All network requests use standard HTTPS. The app uses only standard, exempt encryption and does not include proprietary or non-exempt encryption. Your optional provider key is protected by the macOS Keychain. Your library is protected by the app sandbox and device security.

Your rights & choices

You are always in control:

• Clear your recents, favorites, and collections from within the app at any time.
• Remove your optional provider key from the app's settings or the Keychain.
• Use Choose GIF to Copy without granting any additional system permission.
• Uninstall the app to stop app activity and remove its device-local data. Any KVS data from an older release is managed separately through your Apple Account and is not accessed by version 1.0.1.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, the revised version will be posted at this same URL with a new "Last updated" date. Meaningful changes will be reflected here; please check back from time to time.
